A
AA: The Automobile Association - British motoring organization.
ADAC: German Automobile Club - biggest automobile club in Europe.
Airbag: A safety device in a car that inflates automatically in an accident and prevents the passengers from being thrown forwards.
B
Baby carrier / Baby seat: A rearward facing group 0+ child car seat for children from birth up to 13kg. If the car is equipped with front seat airbags, it is prohibited to place a child in a rear-facing seat in the front of
the car.
Base (of a child seat): The base of a child car seat is the lower portion that rests on the car seat.  A detachable base can also be used with some infant carriers allowing a fixed installation in the car. The base remains in the car and the infant carrier simply clicks in and out as you need it.
Belt Anchorage Points: Fixed locations where the seat belt's latchplate and buckle are anchored to the car structure.
Belt locking mechanism: A built-in belt-locking feature on the child car seat.
Belt Path / Belt Route: The manufacturer's required route where the seat belt passes around or through the child car seat.
Belt tensioning system: Tensions the seat belt ensuring a firm installation.
Belt Webbing: A term used to refer to the car's seat belt material.
Booster Seat / Cushion: A type of child car seat that simply raises the child so that the seat belt is positioned correctly across the child's pelvis and shoulder.  Booster seats rely on the car seat belts to hold both the child and the booster seat in position.  The use of a booster seat depends on a child's height and weight.  Never use with a lap belt only across the child.
Buckle: The locking mechanism of the car seat belt and child car seat harness system. Buckles are typically mounted/attached to fabric webbing and/or by metal or plastic stalks.
Buggy: A small, lightweight, compact pushchair.

Carrycot: A light cot similar to the body of a pram that attaches to a pushchair chassis.
Chassis: The pushchair frame.
Chest Clip: A clip between the chest pads that prevents children struggling from the harness.
Child Car Seat: Common term for a specially designed device that secures a child in a car, meets safety standards, and increases child safety in a crash.
Child Safety Seat / Child Restraint: Common term for a specially designed device that secures a child in a car, meets safety standards, and increases child safety in a crash.
CLICK & GO™: A very simple BRITAX system that fixes your infant carrier or carrycot to the pushchair chassis.
Click & Safe™: Audible harness system is designed to aid you when securing your child in the seat.
Combination Seat: A multi group child car seat which is adjustable and grows with the child.
Compliance Tests: Rigorous crash and static testing done to assure that manufacturers meet required standards.
Cosytoes / Cosy toes: Fits on the pushchair and over the child's lower body in cold weather.
CPS: Child Passenger Safety
CRS: Child Restraint System
Crumple Zone: The zone of a car that absorbs energy upon impact.  The purpose of a crumple zone is to increase the amount of time it takes the car to come to a complete stop in comparison to the object that the car hits.  By increasing the time it takes for the car to come to a stop after hitting an object, the force is spread over a longer period of time.

2D fold: A pushchair fold where the pushchair folds flat (like a deckchair).
3D fold: A pushchair fold where the pushchair folds flat (like a deckchair) but also folds inwards, decreasing the width of the product.

ECE R44: The current European regulation to which child car seats are tested and approved.
Energy Management Control: Part of the BRITAX safety technology programme to look closely at those forces that affect a child in a crash and develop solutions that absorb and reduce those forces to a minimum.
Euro NCAP: The European New Car Assessment Programme: A Europeancar safety performance assessment programme founded in 1997. The organisation is now backed by the European Commission, the governments of France, Germany, Sweden, The Netherlands and Spain, as well as motoring and consumer organisations in every EU country. Euro NCAP publishes safety reports on new cars, and awards 'star ratings' based on the performance of the vehicles in a variety of crash tests, including front, side and pole impacts, and impacts with pedestrians.
Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) Foam: Energy-absorbing padding used to line the polypropylene shell of a child car seat to protect a child's head, torso and seat area.

Five-Point Harness: A child car seat harness with five attachment points: two at the shoulder, two at the hips, and one between the legs. A core tenet of the BRITAX child passenger safety philosophy is that children should remain in a properly positioned five-point harness as long as possible.
Fold lock: This keeps the pushchair locked together when it is folded.
Footmuff: Fits on the pushchair and over the child's lower body in cold weather
Foot prop (Support leg): The foot prop supports and stabilizes the child seat or infant carrier base via the vehicle floor – minimizing the tilting and rotational movements of the seat.
Forward-Facing Car Seat: A child car seat used ina forward-facing position only, for children over 9kg who can confidently sit unaided.

Harness: The internal straps that secure the child within the child car seat.
Harness adjuster: Used to tighten and loosen the harness.
Harness height adjustment:  The process by which the child car seat harness is adjusted up or down to the appropriate height for the child occupant.
Harness Slots: Slots in the child car seat where the harness passes through from the front to the back.  Seats come with at least one and as many as four sets of slots.
Harness Straps: This refers to the child car seat straps used to secure the child into the seat.
Head hugger/support: Provides support for the baby's head.
Height adjustable headrest and harness: A feature on some child car seats which allows easy adjustment of the headrest and harness.
Highback Booster A type of child car seat that does not have a five-point harness but simply raises the child so that the vehicle seat belt is positioned correctly across the child's pelvis and shoulder.  Highback booster seats rely on the vehicle seat belts to hold both the child and the seat in position.  The use of a highback booster depends on a child's height and weight.

Infant Carrier: A rearward facing group 0+ child car seat for children from birth up to 13kg. If the car is equipped with front seat airbags, it is prohibited to place a child in a rear-facing seat in the front of the car.
ISOFIX: The safety system launched first by BRITAX in co-operation with VW that has become an international installation interface for standardised anchorage points between a child car seat and a vehicle. It minimises installation errors and optimises protection through a rigid connection to the car chassis.
ISOFIX anchorage points / ISOFIX connection points: Two metal loops between the seat back cushion and the bottom cushion on the vehicle's car seat where an ISOFIX compatible car seat can be attached
ISOFIX Catch Arm Hook: A hook on the end of the catch arm of ISOFIX child car seats which attaches to the car's ISOFIX connection point.

Lap Belt: A safety belt anchored at two points, for use across the occupant's thighs/hips.
Lap and Diagonal Belt: A seat belt that is anchored at three points and restrains the occupant at the hips and across the shoulder.
Locking Clip: A flat H-shaped metal clip that prevents the seat belt webbing from sliding through.
Lock-off: A built-in belt-locking feature on the child car seat.

One-pull adjustment: This allows you to adjust the child car seat harness by simply pulling the adjuster strap.
P
Pitch control system: Reduces the child's forward movement within the seat in the event of an accident.
Pivot link system: Reduces the child's forward movement within the seat in the event of an accident.
Pram: A cot like wheeled carriage for a baby.
Pushchair: A chair shaped carriage for a child.

Ratchet system: ensures a firm installation when installing the child car seat.
Rear-Facing Infant Seat: A rearward facing group 0+ child car seat for children from birth up to 13kg. If the car is equipped with front seat airbags, it is prohibited to place a child in a rear-facing seat in the front of
the car.
Rebound Bar: Our rebound bar reduces the forward rotation of the infant seat into the vehicle seat during impact and stabilises seat movement.  Rebound is the "bounce" after initial impact has occurred.
Recline positions: Many child car seats and pushchairs feature recline options allowing you to change the position of the seat for your child's comfort.
Roll Cage: The robust shell and strong body which provides maximum safety for the BABY-SAFE SLEEPER.

Seat Belt: A belt worn in a car by an adult or used to install a child car seat to prevent forward motion in the event of a collision.
Seat belt guide: A guide on the child car seat that correctly positions the diagonal belt over the child's shoulder.
Seat unit: The chair shaped area of the pushchair where the child sits.
Shell: The moulded plastic structure of the child car seat.
Shoulder Harness Slots: Slots in the back of the child car seat through which the harness shoulder straps are routed.
Side Impact Protection: Protection from side impact collisions with deep side wings, head supports and energy absorbing materials
Single Handed Release Mechanism – A mechanism that allows the BABY-SAFE SLEEPER or BABY-SAFE plus SHR to be easily removed from a pushchair with one hand.
Stroller: A small, lightweight, compact pushchair

Think Road Safety: The UK Department for Transport's Road Safety Campaign
Top Tether: A belt that attaches to the top of the child car seat and fixes to an anchorage point in the car, limiting the rotational movement of the child car seat.
Top Tether Anchor Point: An attachment point in the vehicle for the child car seat tether strap. Refer to vehicle owner's manual regarding the anchor location.
Travel System: A pushchair and infant carrier, the infant carrier can be attached to the pushchair.
True Side Impact Protection®: A term for BRITAX car seats designed to reduce the injury potential of a side-impact crash by transferring and distributing the force of the impact. Product features include deep side walls and adjustable head support to distribute crash forces, shield from vehicle intrusion, contain the head and body, and minimize side-to-side head movement.

Umbrella fold: A stroller fold where the stroller opens up like an umbrella.
