Key Safety Features

Energy Management Control
In an accident, forces can exceed one ton - yet most restraint and safety systems in vehicles are predominantly designed for adults. BRITAX’s skill lies in safety for children. So we look closely at those forces that affect a child in a crash and develop solutions that absorb and reduce those forces to a minimum.

Here you will find examples of our key safety features

ISOFIX with Pivot Link System:
ISOFIX, the safety system that has become an international installation interface for standardised anchorage points between a child seat and a vehicle. It minimises installation errors and optimises protection through a rigid connection to the car chassis. It also reduces forward and sideward movement of the seat and limits rotation through a foot prop or top tether (universal or semi-universal seats).

Since we launched the first car seats with ISOFIX we have developed this system further and made it even safer. Our Pivot Link system is part of our technical programme that we call Energy Management Control where we aim to significantly redirect the forces on the child that occur in a crash. The Pivot Link is using ISOFIX connectors with L-shape latches that additionally reduces the movement of the child and diverts the forces mainly downwards rather than forward. This means a significant relief for the child’s body and less risk to the child’s head and neck. (see more about ISOFIX)

Supporting ISOFIX safety devices:

The Foot Prop or Support Leg The foot prop supports and stabilises the child seat via the vehicle floor - minimising the tilting and rotational movements of the seat. As some modern cars provide storage space within the floor area, please refer to the vehicle lists for 100% correct usage.

The Top Tether
The top tether is a belt at the top of the child seat that uses anchorage points in the car. Like the foot prop, it limits the rotational movement of the child seat.

Anchorage points provided by car manufacturers:

  • on the hatrack
  • on the floor of the boot
  • behind the backrest of
    the rear bench

Please refer to your vehicle’s user guide to find out if your vehicle has a top tether anchorage point.

Performance Chest Pads
Our chest pads are a key safety feature that control movement by spreading forces evenly over the shoulder and chest providing great comfort too.

Side Impact Protection
25% of all car accidents involve side collisions that put a child’s head and neck at risk. So we have developed a Side Impact Protection system that provides full head containment and with the help of energy absorbing and soft, deeply padded side wings, offers optimum protection.

Safe Fastening: Click & Safe™
How often do you worry if your child is safely restrained? Research has found a high percentage of harness straps to be dangerously loose. The Click & Safe™ audible harness system is designed to aid you when securing your child in the seat and ensure correct tensioning of the harness.

Safety advice:
